Alright, so I know I've been disappointed with The Idol since my girl, Gina, was booted a couple weeks ago.
But I'm becoming really frustrated now. And it's stupid because in the whole of things, Idol is entirely inconsequential.
But people voting for Sanjaya because they think it's funny is annoying. I don't care if you don't like Idol, don't fucking sabotage it. It's lame and ruins it for people who actually like The Idol and get excited for it every week.
And LaKisha isn't that good. Tonight she was wretched, but I don't think she's ever been "the one to beat," so it's annoying that everyone is holding her on a pedestal.
Actually, I take that back, everyone puts Melinda on a pedestal, and she REALLY irritates me. She's talented, I guess, but I hate the tone of her voice and she lacks personality. Her sweetness is horribly saccharine in the worst way.
Frankly, I don't think any of them are good enough to be the next American Idol. I liked Gina, but even she wasn't a great singer. Last season, Chris Daughtry was definitely the shining star, and though he didn't win, he's made a huge splash and his album is great.
What makes it harder is that I've been watching "American Idol Rewind," which is an abbreviated version of Season 1, and when you see someone like Kelly Clarkson perform, back when she was still an amateur, she sounded amazing and brought her "A" game every week. And so did the others. If you put any of them in this competition, they would win hands down.
It's just so disappointing to see boring performances every week. It's like they are all lazy. No one is pushing the envelope and no one is singing like there's no tomorrow. Gina did...but now she's gone.
I don't know. I don't really want to watch, but I love seeing people perform songs every week. And I keep hoping it will get better. That something the judges say will kick their asses in gear, but so far nothing.
I know I care a little too much, but is a little decent reality-TV to distract from the crazy, crappy world around us too much to ask for?
Unrelated, I want someone to name their dog "Mr. Barky von Schnauzer," preferably a dog that is not a schnauzer. It's just a fabulous name.
Sir Barksalot McDoggieton would also be awesome. If you use it, give me credit. ;-)
