After a "dry spell" of decent cinematic ventures (the last really good movies I saw were The Prestige and The Departed...two and four weeks ago, respectively), this weekend is going to ROCK.
On Friday, my Regal cinemas is opening FOUR movies that I have been highly anticipating.
1) Stranger Than Fiction - I've been excited about this one for a long while, and Emma Thompson makes me SO happy. And my love for Dustin Hoffman goes without saying. It's about damn time!
2) The Queen - possible Oscar for Helen Mirren, and frankly...it's about time she got one. The reviews have been INSANELY AMAZING. It has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes (the next closest films are Borat, Volver, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Departed)...I think I really will orgasm if Volver ever gets within 30 miles of me.
3) Babel - oooooooh, the goodness. Brad + Cate + global social issues = so intriguing.
4) The Good Year - unlike the others, it does not have a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and I've never been a huge Russell Crowe fan, but Provence! Not to mention Marion Cotillard (from Big Fish and Love Me If You Dare), and a few of my favorite Brits, Richard Coyle and Tom Hollander.
Oh, the cinema gods are smiling down on me.
The bad news is that I'm going to be at my Mom's this weekend. But with any luck, I can get her to take me to one of them (A Good Year or Stranger Than Fiction...the other two aren't "mommy-friendly").
But Sunday...I think I'll make it a double feature. And then maybe the other on Tuesday...I think I get discounted Sour Patch Kids on Tuesdays.
