What's the male equivalent of "mistress"?

There's "mister" or "master" but those don't have the same meaning or connotation as mistress. Terms like playboy, gigolo, or bachelor (assume he is unmarried) are sort of appropriate to the situation, but methinks there isn't an actual equivalent...which is just terribly sexist and chauvinistic.

Just a thought.

I think most people say "kept man." Mister is more like a more polite way of saying pimp--like, the equivalent of madame...
