I just finished watching Quills and wow. It's really good.

Nothing like I had expected, though I didn't quite know what to expect (I hadn't read the synopsis before watching). So I had a vague idea that it was about a writer and had a really good cast (Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix, Michael Caine).

By the way, I love Kate Winslet. She's phenomenal. And I love her American Express commercial. Quite brilliant as well.

And now, I need a shower, and to watch a movie that will take my mind entirely off Quills. Because dear god, there is no happy ending there.

It should be noted that, regrettably, Quills employs the technique of playing French characters with British accents. This is certainly a downside and something that bothers me (and Zoe) greatly. Is it really that hard to do a French accent?

Dude. Clearly no one can do French accents, if even awesomely incredibly talented BRITISH actors can't even do a French accent and the two countries are right fucking next to each other (you know, with the Channel between them...). I mean, Americans can fake Canadian accents, but generally they suck at Mexican accents; and the British can fake anything but French.

By the way. Should I see Derailed? Speaking of things French...

I know I've seen movies in which actors successfully use French accents, though off the top of my head, I find that I can only think of ones in which the actors actually are French. I can't remember, in Chocolat do Judi Dench and/or Johnny Depp use French accents, or are they British? Obviously Juliette Binoche does a rather convincing French accent.

And yes, I think you should see Derailed. I enjoyed it muchly, and the cast is good. I think Jennifer Aniston is really finding her stride with films. (It is she who stands out the most of the three main characters.) No more Object of My Affection or Picture Perfect (thank god). She's a good, solid actress and even her romantic comedies now are better (Rumor Has It). That's not to say that she didn't do a few good movies along the way. Her role in Office Space was great and She's the One was a really good movie.

I'm excited for her upcoming Friends With Money (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436331/) which also stars Joan Cusack, Jason Isaacs, Catherine Keener, and Frances McDormand. She also has four other movies in the making, according to IMDb, so that's exciting.

Chocolat: Judi Dench, Carrie Ann Moss and Alfred Molina all do French accents, as does Kevin Kline very well in French Kiss. So, I wasn't entirely right, but still, like 4 actors in two films in all of everything we've seen??

I enjoyed your analysis of Jennifer Aniston's film career, though I must point out that The Object of My Affections has stayed with me over the years and I love revisiting it. I haven't seen Rumor Has It either, I kind of just missed it, but I will add it to my list; I think Kevin Costner has finally found himself a great nitch. Did you see The Upside of Anger? Because he kicked ass. They all did.
