HP - Hermione - beautiful disaster

I can't get to sleep, I think about the implications, of diving in too deep...

So I'm a big dork. We all know this.

Today, I'm a dork because I recently invested in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. I know, I know...I've lived without it for 16 years of schooling and ideally, I should have owned it about 8 years ago...but I've finally jumped on the MLA bandwagon...with a little under 2 years of schooling to go.

But's not dorky that I own the MLA Handbook. Thousands of people do. Many are required to buy them for classed (it really should be required for every student, starting in 8th grade...this I firmly believe).

The dorky thing is that I'm flipping through it recreationally and loving it!

It's not just formatting papers, works cited pages, and internal citations. Oh no! It's practical tips for taking notes and researching, AND! Grammar rules and mechanics of writing! For example, did you know that you should never start a sentence with a numeral?

This is the big one.

I've asked a couple times in this journal if there were a difference between 1990's and 1990s and similarly '60's, 60s, and other variations therein. As it turns out, there should never be an apostrophe before the "s" (1990s) and always before the abbreviated number ('60s).

It's a rule and I never have to wonder again!

YAY! MLA is super!

The only downside?

Art historians use Chicago Manual Style, not MLA.

But, the other new nifty handbook I purchased recently was A Short Guide to Writing About Art. And that includes a small section about Chicago Manual Style.

Now to put all these spiffy rules to use in my papers. Yuck.

Daily Show - My News is Funny

Hanging out down the street, same old thing we did last week...

Oh man. I laughed out loud at this commercial.

So there's a guy, early 20s and living alone in a crappy apartment. And he finds a note on his door which is read in a voice over:

"Dear Son,

As much as I wanted to stop you from leaving, I do understand your decision. Life can be hard and it's tough to make it on your own. I want you to know that you're always welcome to come back. I wait with open arms.

And in my defense, there are a bunch of those shows that aren't even on currently (like Project Runway, Psych, The Class, and My Boys).

Which reminds me...what the hell is with all the reruns lately? When's the last time you saw a new CSI?**

**Actually, I looked it up. February 22nd. And the next new one? March 29th. 5 weeks? Seriously!?

Alright, so it's really irrefutable that the first Bridget Jones movie is far superior to the second...but I really can't help it. I love The Edge of Reason.

It's ridiculous, of course. But Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are just so amazing, no matter what film they're in. Fighting in the fountain? Classy! Plus, the whole film is just all British and stuff.

And you really have to love Renee putting on all the weight and looking fabulously curvy (though the character is a little obnoxious at times). And Jacinda Barrett as the cutie lezzie is just icing on the cake. She's just so cute! OH, and I had forgotten about Shirley Henderson (aka Moaning Myrtle)!

It's all just lovely, really.

Tomorrow, I'm dying my hair. I hope it turns out well...I'm going for an auburn...'cause the brown/gold/red palette is freakin' sweet and all the hotties are doing it. It's kinda what my hair is now, after fading for 6 months, but hopefully this will kick it up a couple notches and it will look more normal.
