I just remembered that I need to write a paper for my English class. It must be based off a film that depicts a subculture.

In class we discussed "subculture" ad nauseum and here are the restraints:
- It cannot be a "community" (eg. gay, Asian, blind)
- It must be depicted in a movie
- The director must make some kind of stance (and we therefore agree or disagree with the director's portrayal of the subculture)

What I need is a subculture. My professor mentioned the following as examples:
- Punk
- Gangs
- Groopies

I had thoughts on the following:
- Dancers (a la Altman's The Company...but I haven't seen it, so I don't know if there's any commentary on "dancers" as a subculture. Yes? No? Anyone? Bueller?)
- Surfers
- Musicians/bands

A guy in my group is probably doing "Trekkies," and I'm sure there are a load of other geeky things that could be done, but I want to have some sort of knowledge on the topic.

What I'm asking for:
- Suggestions (+ films in which it is depicted)
- Brownie points if the idea actually appeals to me
- Double brownie points if you give me the director's intention

I know I have a lot of smart, savvy, movie-lovin' folk on my friends list...so PLEASE! Help out! It's fun!!!

There is a laundry list of things I need to do, the least being watching the West Wing episode "The Women of Qumar" (season 3, episode 9). But I was reading West Wing quotes on wikiquote and I think I finally found the place where I last watched.

But now that I'm watching, I definitely remember watching this episode.

Mary Louise Parker is absolutely amazing.

Why can't I be optimistic? I tried to find the logic logically...

Thanks to those who were lovely enough to attempt helping me with my English project (the subculture in film thing). I decided to go a slightly different direction. After an hour and a half of discussing and searching with Zoe, we came up "criminal underground" and I will be using The Usual Suspects as my evidence...assuming my English prof approves the idea.

I'm feeling feverish, which is bad....very bad. I don't do sick well.

Also, I have to write a "job intent" letter for my summer gig. Eww. I hate whoring myself out like this. I get to explain all the reasons I should be a boss. Because I'm good at what I do, end of story. I don't do well with self-promotion. I'm never going to make it in film. Then again, I probably wouldn't have made it in theatre either.

I did my reading for tomorrow morning's class. Boring times twelve. Now I have reading for tomorrow night's class, and then it's bedtime. I should probably go to bed now, but I never was much for logic.
