For her it was an 'aura.' For me it was a hot flash.

Alright.

So Winter Break is starting to really bother me.

I was playing around on travel site kayak.com and I'm thinking that if I shorten my trip, I could theoretically rent a car and get a hotel room (probably in Gurnee, because it's half the price of Deerfield, and less than half the distance of Hyde Park or Salem, WI (both 35 miles from Deerfield)).

Oy.

The problem...it's super expensive. And I'd be shortening my trip to 6 days instead of 12.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that a car is imperative. It's also $300 for 6 days for an under-25 year old (oh, and then there's the gas...which is why being 15 miles away in Gurnee is preferable to 35 miles away). The hotel would be over $400. And the flight is still $200.

Of course, that all doesn't include all the money I'll spend on food and social events once I get there.

Oh, and don't forget that I'm still planning to get to New York for the New Year.

I have a little excess student loan money...but I really shouldn't spend it all.

Anyone have a good solution for me? Keep in mind that I will be in Deerfield or Highland Park every day.
