So my thesis is...unfinished. And in need of a lot of work. But my advisor was positive and confident that I will be fine (despite the fact she hasn't read it yet). I'll get my draft back with plenty o' notes so I can work on it even more over Spring Break. Additionally, she flattered me profusely which helped my ego and gave me the boost to want to continue working on my thesis (because, dear god, after 8 weeks, I'm getting a little tired of it all).
Additionally, she said she'd be happy to be a reference for any job or program I might apply to...and she's going to be on the lookout for paid internships/other opportunities that might be good for me.
Rock.
Additionally, for the first time in a long while, I have been laughing aloud at "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report." Methinks its because my stress levels are WAY down after I turned in my American Film paper and partial thesis. Granted, I still have my History of Prints extra credit paper (8 pages due Friday), but I'm taking tonight off to watch some TV, Into the Wild (which I rented from Redbox for FREE), and just chill out.

I honestly don't understand how a person could sleep for 6 hours with two different alarms going off every few minutes.
Seriously. Every three-ish minutes, one of two alarms chimes. And yet she sleeps through it. They were going off at 9:30 this morning, when I left for a meeting with my advisor (most everything is on track for graduation...I do have a couple little hiccups which I hope to get resolved soon).
They were still chiming at 10:30 when I got home from my meeting.
And now? 6 hours later? They are still going off.
I really don't understand.
I mean...if I were so tired that I definitely couldn't wake up and wasn't going to wake up...I'd turn off the alarm, or reset it for a much later time. And I seriously doubt I could even sleep for that long, being waked every three minutes.
To be honest, it's pretty damn annoying.

So I didn't get my ass handed to me on a platter, as I'd been expecting.
The amazing and magnanimous Dr. Jody Cutler had agreed to be my faculty sponsor person for my independent research project.
*BIG sigh of relief*
And we've come up with a topic entirely contrary to what I was lately thinking of doing. I knew my idea lacked any thesis possibility (it would have been a straight history paper with a little bit of analysis), and though I was very interested in in, she came up with something new. So now I'll be studying Asian women artists and filmmakers and how they are perceived within their culture, outside their culture, and what influence they've had in the global context.
Ooo.
It should be interesting, but I feel like I'm starting from ground zero in terms of information or ideas. I've recently gotten really into Indian cinema (I attended the South Asian Film Festival at the Enzian this fall), so I'm glad to be able to research it more intensely. I'll probably also focus on women in Islamic art/film, so that should be really cool too.
But I know very little beyond Gurinder Chadha (director of Bend it Like Beckham and Bride & Prejudice), but I definitely won't be using her. I will most likely be using Deepa Mehta and her 2005 film Water, but I've only seen clips of it, so I'll need to rent it and watch the whole thing. As for artists...Dr. Cutler gave me a couple to look in to, and I'll be going to the library tomorrow to look at some books and get a better idea overall.
But. I have a faculty advisor. She'll be emailing my regular advisor so that I can get enrolled in the "course" before Friday (last day for add/drop). And I'm well on my way.
Oh, and my regular advisor emailed me back. After yesterday's accusatory and bordering-on-rude email to me, her tone today was much more sympathetic. I think she finally realized that I wasn't lazy, just completely clueless. Hopefully it will all get sorted out within the next 24 hours, or so.
And I'm spent.
